General Tips for Maintenance
Wash yourself before getting into the water. Many water maintenance issues can be prevented by clearing yourself of dirt and contaminants before getting in.
Keep the pool/spa covered when it’s not in use so that debris doesn’t drop in.
Check the chemical balance regularly and correct imbalances quickly, whether or not you plan to use your pool/spa soon.
Drain and refill the hot tub regularly. What “regularly” means to you will depend on the size of the tub, the number of people who use it, and how often. But for most hot tubs, they should be drained and re-filled every 3-4 months. Foamy, cloudy, or discolored water indicates that a change is overdue.
The Most Common Problem is Chemical Maintenance
The primary cause of problems for pools and spas is water balance: that means the chemical and pH levels. Imbalance can cause algae and contaminant buildup that pose a health risk to any bathers. It can also compromise your pump and heater because pH imbalance can corrode the mechanisms.
Imbalanced chemical can lead to bad-smelling water, excessive foam, itchy skin or eyes, and rashes. There could be lime or scale buildup, or mold and mildew growth. So, in order to keep the chemicals well-balanced in your spa, check the levels at least once a month. Give it a shock treatment every now and then to keep things clean.
